Both the mathematics and the physics programme has an explicit additional focus on returning teachers. We expect that any returners participating in the programme will benefit from accessing employment opportunities within school groups.
Returners can be described as those people who have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent who are not currently employed in a permanent or fixed term teaching post in the English state-funded sector. This could include:
- People who are working in another sector but have had a teaching post in the past (it does not matter how long ago they left teaching)
- People who may have had a career break to bring up children or take on caring responsibilities (this does not include those just returning from an official period of maternity leave)
- People who gained QTS but deferred their entry for one year or more
- People who are currently supply teaching
Returning teachers can now get one-to-one support from an NCTL Recruitment Advisor. To access this support returners need to register either by calling the Return to Teaching helpline on 0800 085 0971 or via the website.
On registration, they will receive an NCTL registration number and the recruitment advisor will signpost returners to your training (using the directory).
Please can you ensure that you register with NCTL before applying for either programme so that NCTL can ensure you have access to all the support available to you. A returner that forgets their registration number can get it by calling the Return to Teaching helpline.
