A2 Psychology is broken down into 2 units:
Unit 3 - PSYA3 (taught from September to January)
25% of the total A-level marks - (1 hour 30 minutes Exam Paper)
Three essay-style questions chosen from eight topics. The topics taught to George Spencer students are-
(a) Biological Rhythms and Sleep
Unit 4 - PSYA4 (taught from January to May/June)
25% of the total A-level marks - (2 hour Exam Paper)
- Psychopathology: One essay-style question chosen from three. QWC will be assessed in this essay.
- Psychology in Action: One question chosen from three.
- Research Methods: One compulsory structured question.
- British Science and Natural History Museum – 30th October
- BPS Conference at Nottingham Trent University – November
- Brain Awareness Week at Nottingham University – March
- Other interesting and exciting one off trips i.e. Science & Pseudoscience Conference (November)
All students are provided with either a full textbook or a revision guide (selected by the student). Alternatively, students can select to use both. Students are asked to have separate folders for the different modules they learn, or to use file dividers within one folder. Students are required to bring their textbook and their unit folder to all lessons. This folder should contain previous lesson hand-outs and notes, exam question booklet and assessment record sheet.

Extra Background Reading
Students are provided with some psychological articles within their module booklets at the beginning of the course. In addition to this students are provided with wider reading suggestions and articles as the course progresses. Both Psychology teachers are in receipt of current research published by the British Psychological Society, and distribute this relevant research to the students on a regular basis. Students are also encouraged to seek out psychological information by reading relevant news article, for example, and bringing these into lessons to promote a class discussion.
