IOP Partner Schools with GSA

We are in a great and exciting position at George Spencer, moving from our third year working with the Institute of Physics as a link school, into a lead school next year. As part of this we are looking to recruit schools to become Stimulating Physics Network Partner Schools as part of the Institute of Physics, working closely with George Spencer Academy.

This entails support in the following ways, which are entirely dependent on your current Physics departmental 'status'.

  • Support with using equipment
  • Ensuring staff are up to date on core practicals
  • Changes in the 9-1 curriculum
  • Support with staff who are teaching Physics out of specialism at KS4 and KS4
  • Small workshops / bespoke CPD

Ideally we would like to establish links with schools before the Summer holidays, in order to hit the ground running in September. I will be available 1 day out of the week to come to your school to work with staff 1-1, or small groups, work within classes and support with audits. We could also organise specific support afterschool in the form of workshops and CPD.

If you are interested and would like to know more, please feel free to email khancock@george-spencer.notts.sch.uk and take a look at the contract attached - there is an example one already completed and one which explains more about the support on offer. As the support is free, the contract really just ensures we can fully support you and keep on top of your needs throughout the academic year.

Science Subject Leader Network

This network is facilitated by a Science SLE, Jules Gordon, and meets termly or more frequently if required. It provides a strong and supportive learning community for Science leaders, with a focus on best and next practice locally and nationally. School improvement; teacher development and pupil outcomes, will be the focus of the group with activities being tailored to meet the specific needs of the participants.
